The group was founded in 1959 by a group of student activists dissatisfied with the reserved nationalism of the traditional Basque party. The group's aim was the creation of an independent homeland in Spain's Basque region. ETA had its origin in a nationalist group, EKIN, formed as a result of the restrained actions of the PNV (Basque Nationalist Party) during the Franco regime. September 11 they have found it harder to do so. This would be due to the fact that America and most of the world have decided to crackdown on terrorism which is blind to nationality and origin. The fact that they have continued to kill people for the past 3 decades shows that they have the ability to do what so pleases them and this can be very dangerous for people who might try and impede them.
