The production?s elucidation of the Inspector is that he is like a director, he directed events, and that was his purpose. The Inspector was also like a judge, when he was questioning the family, especially Sheila when he acted like a prosecutor. It was also like a courtroom when Sheila spoke to the audience addressing us as if we were the jury.
