In his novel, Lord of the Flies, William Golding presented many critical events, which were by-products of fear or total freedom / a lack of consequences. To illustrate his purpose in writing the novel, Golding had the boys slowly regress as a result of their isolation. The boys' descent into savagery was clearly evidenced; however, this interpretation of human nature is only one perspective. To have a true appreciation for this novel, the reader must possess a strong personal understanding of what roles certain situations cause particular individuals to undertake; upon closer observation, it may be found that digression into savagery is in fact human nature after all.
