Racial Tension I agree that the United States suffered from racial tensions well into the Twentieth century. Throughout the 20th century many white people believed that blacks should be separated from whites, causing much animosity between the two. Blacks and whites are now permitted to shop in the same stores, drink from the same water fountains, attend the same schools, and even marry one another. As a citizen of America, one can only hope that our society will only continue to improve and to be treated equally with the same freedom and rights.
