Stamp Act Protest After the French and Indian war, Britain, although victorious, was left with a debt of 140 million pounds. Colonial businessmen agreed to stop importing British goods until the act was abolished. Soon, refusal to use the stamps on business papers became common. In 1766 the British parliament did away with the Stamp Act which has been said to be considered as one of the immediate causes of the American Revolution.
