The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald, author of the modern literary classic "The Great Gatsby", was not what most people would call an up person. He had a rather dim view of humanity in general, and this was reflected in his writing and most of the characters in the book. By examining these characters, one can see that each one is flawed almost fatally, and this causes mayhem, jealousy, infidelity, and ultimately death.

treated like a dog by someone who has money, instead of being cared for by someone who has no money. Once again, Fitzgerald shows his disdain for crass materialism.
Through his character's actions, we get a glimpse into Fitzgerald's extremely negative worldview. Although F. Scott Fitzgerald gave us the gift of a classic novel, he never knew the amount of its success. He died at the age of 44 in Hollywood, California, believing himself a failure.
