The New Deal during the great depression had brought the role of the government into greater regard as far as dealing with the economic crisis at the time. Reagan lessened the role of the government and there was more of a free market. The Breakfast Club was in no way about economics or Reagan, but the whole idea of the individual versus an authority figure was certainly evident.
