Current evidence suggests that the universe will expand forever and eventually die as it runs out of atoms capable of nuclear fusion. The skies will go dim as nothing but blackholes dominate the universe. Eventually even the blackholes will evaporate. The universe is still young and this won't happen for a very long time.
