The American Revolution has been traditionally studied as a single, unified movement of colonial forces fighting against the imperial British. As well as this descriptphilosophy, mathematics, government and language ion makes for a nice grade school story, it is important to understand that in the course of several years that composed the latter half of the eighteenth century, America underwent two revolutions. I believe John Adams most accurately commented in 1818 when he said, "The Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of th epeople, a change in their religious sentinents, of their duties and obligations...This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentinetns and affections of the people was the real American Revolution."4
