The Secretary of State is the Chief Elections Officer of the State. Also they appoint county boards of elections and supervise their activities. One of the major jobs for the person who takes office is to redraw the district lines after the census in the year 2000. One major factor was the fact that we saw him speak just a few weeks ago. Another factor was that he has had numerous years of experience at places such as U.S. ambassador, mayor, and was on the U.S. department of Housing and Urban development.
