We now have homosexual couples, interracial couples, and the need for youth to express themselves and to be set apart from everyone else. Prom has always been seen as a rite of passage, and maybe it can still be seen that way, but certainly not a passage into adulthood. Maybe we can see it as a beginning of a new chapter in life.
