Introduction
Racism within the police force is not a new concept and has been around for many years. Recent events such as the BBC TV documentary 'The Secret Policeman' highlight how now more than ever, there is a growing trend in racist officers entering the service. The programme consequently led to the suspension of seven police officers, from three different forces.

as the force had to accept its downfalls and agree to a complete reform. Although the report displayed many weaknesses within the service, the lessons learnt proved to be extremely valuable. Lessons learned from the Macpherson report into the murder of Stephen Lawrence and the recommendations made will eventually improve liaisons and relationships between the police and ethnic minorities. Ultimately the most difficult challenge ahead will be improving the accountability and credibility of the police.
