at that points it is not friendship anymore it is family. For kids in school years friendship is important for them to play games, but it can be broken for a piece of candy. After high school friends from earlier years are usually forgotten. People make friends with different and new people after high school because they become mature. My conclusion is that friendship is a weak point in everyone and friendship can be broken.
