Slavery was popular in America in the 18th and 19th centuries. These Amendments changed the way of life in the United States. The 13th Amendment changed society completely by abolishing slavery. The 14th Amendment, along with the Emancipation Proclamation, changed our Government greatly. Both Amendments are result of the North's victory in the Civil War, and without them our country as we know it today would not have been possible.
