Violence sells and it appears to be a permanent fixture in our society. Therefore, audiences will be exposed to mediated violence in sports for a long time to come. Shock value is important to the American media and violence falls under the category of shock value. People want to be on their edge of their seat at all time and want to sit there with their jaw dropped, saying to themselves, 'Oh My God!'.
