Horacio Quiroga was born in 1878, a time when Uruguay and Argentina were going through many different economic and social changes. Within months his natural father was killed in a hunting accident, the first of a series of tragic deaths that were to affect profoundly Quiroga and his work. I also do not think that Horacio Quiroga glorifies Nature, as neither of the two short stories I have looked at worship it or give a great impression that Nature is better than man. The stories are simply showing the way in which Nature can work and does work especially in the particular situations and surroundings the two protagonists are set in.
