Banquo was through out the novel noticed for the honorable character which he played, but all though Banquo may appear as an honorable character his virtues could be of convenience. If gain is at stake then he may be willing to compromise those virtues for his profit. There are many reasons why Banquo remain silent, but probably the most important reason would be for his own self gain.
