Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky on February 12, 1809 to Thomas and Nancy Lincoln. He was born in a one-room log cabin only 16 feet long and 18 feet wide. When he was 6 years old, he and his sister Sarah walked two miles each day to a log schoolhouse. He learned how to read, write, and do math. On November 19 of that year he gave his famous Gettysburg Address. The war ended in April 1865 when Lee surrendered to Grant. Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln went to a play at Ford's theater in Washington D.C. to celebrate the end of the war. Sadly, John Wilkes Booth, who was pro-slavery, assassinated Lincoln during the play.
