You would think that the slaves would be worth enough money for them to give them adequate living conditions, so they could at least survive the trip to the new land. worth dying for. They didn't even have a cause, they didn't know where their government stood on the issue of slavery.
The people didn't want there employed blacks going back to the south into slavery. They needed the workers and felt strongly that they should not be sent back. Many people wanted a government that didn't discriminate between black and white and that the people would be equal to live in a none biased society.
