In the times after the War of 1812, with a growing economy and an expanding nation, social views were taking a turn towards a more equal society. These two assumptions of people in the mid 19th century were the seeds to many reforms and beliefs of a nation including abolition and women suffrage. They were also destroying ties between the North and the South. Their differing views and attitudes would push them to the inevitable war that would proceed this era.
